A VICTIMISED postman said he was “so proud” this weekend when his colleagues walked out to get him his job back.

Fife-based David Mitchell was accused of stealing greetings cards by bosses 18 months ago — and subsequently given the sack.

The 57-year-old won a case for unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal — but workers downed their own sacks for 24 hours on Saturday after bosses refused to reinstate him.

A pub over the road offered the strikers a free pint to keep their spirits up.

Mr Mitchell sent a message of gratitude to his colleagues ahead of the strike, according to local paper The Courier.

“I really wish it hadn’t come to this and it shouldn’t have,” he said. “I can’t think of the best way to thank you, but I am so proud of you all.”

Mr Mitchell had worked for Royal Mail for 27 years before he was fired.
