CAMPAIGNERS in West Yorkshire carried out a “parade of shame” yesterday round businesses that have dodged taxes and ruined the economy.
Halifax People’s Assembly joined forces with Calderdale Unite Community union activists to stage the tour in the town singing socialist carols.
The campaigners targeted Barclays bank which has been fined millions for its dodgy dealings and is wrapped up in fraud allegations.
Next were the offices of Royal Mail which was sold off for half its value.
They stopped outside tax-dodger Vodaphone and Cafe Nero which paid no corporation tax last year on profits of £40 million.
McDonald’s was targeted for employing thousands of workers on zero-hours contracts and so was Boots, which gets 40 per cent of its income from NHS contracts but has avoided £1.2 billion in tax since 2007.
