Clydebank TUC tells activists to mobilise against cuts

A People’s Assembly group set up by Clydebank TUC has issued a call to local trade union and community activists to mobilise against austerity and welfare cuts.

Clydebank TUC secretary Tom Morrison told the Star yesterday: “We’re organising a People’s Assembly working meeting for trade unionists and people in the community who do not accept the need for the austerity measures and cuts in welfare by the current and previous governments in this, the seventh-richest country in the world.

“We believe we are involved in a class war against a ruling elite who want the working class to pay for a crisis caused by the bankers and for which they are making us pay.”

The meeting scheduled for Thursday April 24 at 7pm in Clydebank Town Hall will decide local priorities for the campaign.

“We want our People’s Assembly movement to act as a lasting tribute to the recent loss of two greats of the labour and trade union movement: Bob Crow and Tony Benn,” Mr Morrison said.
