Public meeting will address global drift to war

Stop the War to hold conference at Bloomsbury Baptist Church at 6.30pm, August 27

ANTI-WAR campaigners are set to hold a public meeting tomorrow to discuss activism in a world “more violent and volatile than at any time in decades.”

Stop the War Coalition noted in a statement ahead of the event that conflict is spreading across the Middle East, while the crisis in Ukraine has generated the most dangerous standoff Russian-Western standoff since the Soviet Union collapsed.

The campaign group said media groups are ignoring that the chaos in Iraq and Ukraine are directly linked to previous wars and aggressive policies pursued by the Western powers and Nato in recent decades.

“The US and its allies are responding to the mayhem they themselves have created by escalating intervention,” a spokeswoman said. “But bombing Iraq or spreading arms in the region will only add fuel to the flames.”

Speakers at the meeting, which takes place at the Bloomsbury Baptist Church in Shaftesbury Avenue, London, from 6.30pm, include Stop the War Coalition convenor Lindsey German and Jeremy Corbyn MP.
