Evra asks to leave United to join Juve

by Kadeem Simmonds

Patrice Evra has asked to leave Manchester United, with the defender set to join Juventus.

The Italian side approached United on Wednesday afternoon regarding the Frenchman’s availability but didn’t make an official offer.

Evra, currently on holiday after the World Cup, then asked the United board yesterday morning to allow the deal to go through but stopped short of handing in a transfer request.

And it seems the club are happy to let the 33-year-old leave after signing Luke Shaw earlier on in the month.

The loss will be a huge blow to the club after losing Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Nemanja Vidic this summer who between them have played over 1,300 times for United in the league.

Netherlands left-back Danny Blind has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Blind can play in defence or in midfield and his versatility could be helpful to Van Gaal as he attempts to rebuild a side that finished seventh in the league.

The club did confirm yesterday that new the manager will make his first appearance at Old Trafford in a pre-season friendly against Valencia on August 12.
