Lennon delighted with Celtic win

BY ANDREW MUIRHEAD

Celtic manager Neil Lennon was delighted with his side’s 5-2 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.

The Northern Irishman commented: "It was emphatic in the end considering we gave Aberdeen a goal. Going forward, we were fantastic today and could've won by more. It was a good game of football, two teams really going for it."

Scott Brown and Kris Commons both scored twice, with Anthony Stokes getting on the scoresheet also as Celtic secured all three points.

Niall McGinn and Shaleum Logan scored for Aberdeen and McInnes’ side claimed for a penalty after Johnny Hayes fell in the box but the referee rightly waved away the Aberdeen protests.

Stephen McManus and Lionel Ainsworth secured victory for Motherwell against St.Johnstone, with Dave Mackay scoring a consolation for Tommy Wright’s side.

Dundee United drew 1-1 with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Ryan Christie gave the Highlanders the lead after he headed home Marley Watkins' cross before Farid El Alagui equalised midway through the second-half.

St.Mirren secured all three vital points with a 1-0 win over Ross County, thanks to a superb goal from Gregg Wylde as they inch closer to safety.

Ten men Hibernian secured a vital point in their bid to stave off that relegation play-off place with a 1-1 draw against Partick Thistle, thanks to a late goal from youngster Sam Stanton cancelling out an early goal from Kris Doolan.

City rivals Hearts continued to finish the season in impressive form as they hammered Kilmarnock 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Ryan Stevenson, piling more pressure on Allan Johnston’s side.

Dundee secured promotion to the Premiership after a dramatic finish to the Championship season, after Paul Hartley’s side secured a 2-1 victory over Dumbarton.

Headers from Christian Nade and Peter MacDonald gave Dundee a 2-0 lead to start the championship party early. However, a Scott Agnew penalty in the 69th minute gave Dumbarton and Hamilton Accies – who had thumped Morton 10-2 – a lifeline.

With the full time whistle fast approaching, Dundee had keeper Kyle Letheren to thank after he pulled off a superb save in the dying minutes to turn a Dumbarton shot onto the post and deny the Sons a dramatic late equaliser.

If that shot had gone in, Accies would have secured automatic promotion on goal difference but they had to settle for second spot and with that a play-off place for a hope of gaining promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

Dees manager Paul Hartley after the match said: "It was nervy towards the end but we got the job done and all credit to the players for that. Great excitement, a great achievement and it's where the club belong — in the top flight."
