CONSTRUCTION union Ucatt has welcomed a parliamentary early day motion tabled by Labour MP Stephen Hepburn calling for London’s Crossrail to improve industrial relations.

Mr Hepburn tabled the motion on Monday amid concerns over blacklisting of trade union activists and allegations of bullying and physical intimidation, including an incident when a lorry driver is reported to have threatened to run over trade unionists at Crossrail’s Plumstead depot.

A number of disputes have stemmed from health and safety concerns and workers on the cross-capital project not being paid.

Union officials say they have been filmed by management at a site demonstration and the union has complained of intimidation by security guards.

Ucatt London and south-east regional secretary Jerry Swain called on “all MPs — of whatever party — to support this EDM for an investigation.

“Crossrail is a high-profile, nationally important infrastructure project which should be an exemplar of worker conditions and industrial relations.”
