Transport union RMT has taken strike action at Quality Line Epsom over bosses’ refusal to recognise it for bargaining purposes.
But Unite said it was not accurate for the RMT to say the firm had “stitched up a backroom deal” with Unite.
Unite passenger transport national officer Bobby Morton said: “This year the French company RATP, with whom Unite the Union has numerous recognition agreements, bought [Quality Line].
“Unite, which has a significant membership within the company, successfully applied for a voluntary recognition agreement. All of this was done above board and within recognised procedures, and I would hope that RMT will withdraw the remark about a backroom deal, which is the wrong way to describe a sister union’s activities.”
He said the RMT’s application for recognition had been rejected by both the company and the Central Arbitration Committee.
