EMPLOYMENT Minister Jenny Willott is better suited to I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue than government, construction union Ucatt said yesterday.
The Lib Dem ruled out a Scottish affairs committee proposal to help end blacklisting by ensuring construction workers were directly employed, saying it would effectively mean a ban on employment agencies.
“This shows that not only does Jenny Willott not understand the construction industry or the blacklisting scandal but she doesn’t understand her own government’s policies,” said Ucatt general secretary Steve Murphy.
The union pointed out that since April’s Budget workers must be on PAYE rather than falsely self-employed if under “the direction, supervision or control of an intermediary,” bringing basic employment rights as a blow to a blacklisting culture.
Mr Murphy, added: “Victims of blacklisting deserve better than to be fobbed off by lame excuses which don’t even comply with government policy.”
