VINCE CABLE was a laughing stock yesterday, insisting it was “perfectly plausible” he could be Britain’s next prime minister.
The optimistic Lib Dem leader told BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show that he could replace PM Theresa May in Downing Street despite his party only having only a dozen MPs.
He said: “As leader of the third UK party, my job is to be the alternative prime minister … I, and my party, are the alternative.”
However, the former business secretary was widely mocked for his comments on social media.
Unison head of legal services Adam Creme quipped on Twitter: “And I could win the Olympic 100 metres.”
Jeanie Law: wrote: “Haven’t laughed so much in ages, Vince Cable thinks he could be the next prime minister.”
Mr Cable’s comments come as he joins his fellow Liberal Democrats to attend their party conference in Bournemouth.
