A RACIST murderer was told yesterday that he would spend at least 32 years in prison for a “sickening attack” on an elderly Muslim man who was walking to mosque.
Dale Jones, 30, of Norwood Street, Dalton, had already been sentenced at Sheffield crown court to life for killing Mushin Ahmed. Accomplice Damien Hunt, 30, of Doncaster Road, was jailed for 14 years for manslaughter.
The 81-year-old Mr Ahmed was punched, kicked and stamped upon in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, in the early hours of August 10 2015 and died in hospital 11 days later.
He suffered serious head and facial injuries and was left with an imprint of Mr Jones’s trainer on his face.
A jury heard that Mr Jones flew into a “raging fury” fuelled by a day of heavy drinking and use of cocaine and tranquillisers before accusing Mr Ahmed of being a “groomer.”
There is “no doubt” the accusation was made only because Mr Ahmed was Asian, prosecutor Andrew Robertson QC told the court.
“This extreme violence is nothing short of sickening and highlights just how dangerous these individuals are,” said Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Short.
A short time before the fatal attack, Mr Jones racially abused an Asian taxi driver, the jury was told.
A man appeared in court yesterday charged with the murder of imam Jalal Uddin, who was found with head injuries in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, after walking home from a mosque.
