POLL: The Lib Dems could avoid a national wipeout at the general election - but leader Nick Clegg could lose his seat, a new poll for Michael Ashcroft revealed yesterday.

The poll showed Labour was just three points behind in Mr Clegg's Sheffield Hallam constituency.

Ukip leader Nigel Farage could be disappointed in his bid to become an MP after the poll showed him five points behind the Tories in South Thanet and three points behind Labour.

WALKOUT: Defence workers are to stage a 10-day strike in a long-running dispute over pay.

Members of Unite at Defence Support Group (DSG) sites across Britain will walk out from December 8 in protest at a 1 per cent pay offer.

The latest action at the group, which maintains and repairs military equipment for the Ministry of Defence, follows six days of strike action in recent weeks.

WATCHDOG: Almost half of the police forces in England and Wales are letting down victims of crime due to the poor standard of their investigations, a policing watchdog said yesterday.

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary said it was of "material concern" that 18 out of 43 forces were assessed as requiring improvement in the way they investigate offending.

Failures to take photos of injuries in domestic abuse cases were among the inconsistencies.

TELL SYD: Annual sales of vinyl albums have soared past the million mark for the first time in 18 years - buoyed by veteran rock act Pink Floyd.

The format has been undergoing a renaissance, with sales gradually increasing in recent years and it has now hit the seven-figure mark.

Floyd's first new release for 20 years, The Endless River, helped the figures sail over one million as it topped the chart, according to figures released by music industry body BPI.
