NEW ENGLAND Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett is being racially abused on social media following last week’s announcing will sit out the franchises Super Bowl victory visit to the White House.
Three other players, free safety Devin McCourty, defensive tackle Alan Branch and running back LeGarette Blount have also declined invitations to see President Donald Trump despite owner Robert Kraft, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady all endorsing Trump before and after his victory over Hillary Clinton.
This has led to a large number of sickening messages sent to Bennett on social media.
David Lampard tweeted: “Ungrateful Nigger, if it weren’t for football or basketball, he would be a felon or a garbage man.
That’s what monkeys are good for.”
Another user, Deplorable, said: “Stick to football you ignorant cotton picker. Your masters are happy to keep you where they believe you belong; not thinking.”
Following the 34-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons, McCourty said: “Basic reason for me [not going] is I don’t feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won’t.”
