A WASTE recycling firm is sending scabs from London to break a strike in Sheffield.
Workers with refuse disposal contractor Veolia, which is contracted to Sheffield Council, are to strike on Monday in a long-running pay dispute.
The GMB union says the scabs will receive first-class rail travel and beds in a good hotel.
Union organiser Lee Parkinson said: “This dispute could and should have been settled months ago. What has shocked us is the lengths that Veolia are prepared to go to, rather than sit down and negotiate a deal. Instead, they have chosen to throw more fuel on the fire by bringing this labour in.”
Meanwhile, refuse and recycling workers in Norfolk are to strike indefinitely from October 24 in another pay dispute.
The GMB members in North Norfolk want pay parity with colleagues in King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.
