Bishop of Truro slams Con-Dems’ ‘sinful’ policy of poverty

Cornwall Bishop Tim Thornton delivered a scorching sermon yesterday condemning “sinful” government policies that are strangling local authorities and spreading poverty.

The Truro-based cleric slammed the Westminster budget squeeze for forcing councils to choose where to spend their cash.

Tory strategy had “sinful elements,” he warned.

“Part of what I see happening down here in Cornwall is that some of the pressures that some of the local authorities are being put under lead to some very difficult decisions about where resources are allocated,” he told the BBC.

“Some of these policies have sinful consequences with sinful elements.”
