International inspectors for Troika lenders to resume review of Greece bailout reform

THE Greek Finance Ministry said yesterday that international debt inspectors would meet its officials in Paris today to revive the stalled review of the nation’s financial reforms.

Debt inspectors from creditor agencies the International Monetary Fund, European Commission and European Central Bank disagree with Athens on what reforms should be completed before the main part of the bailout ends this year.

The government submitted its 2015 budget to parliament last week without debt inspectors’ approval, sticking with high growth and low deficit predictions that the creditors insist are over-optimistic.

Athens had set a December 8 deadline to complete the review.

But the talks foundered over a budget gap that the inspectors said would appear next year and representatives of the European Union and IMF did not return to Athens earlier this month as had been expected.

However, a ministry official insisted yesterday that the bailout would not be extended past the end of the year.
