Jose Mourinho slammed referee Chris Foy for failing to explain why he was dismissed in the closing stages of Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

The league leaders had a first-half goal ruled out before they were reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of Willian for a second yellow card.

With Villa Park rocking, man-of-the-match Fabian Delph backheeled Marc Albrighton's low cross pass Petr Cech to give the Villans back-to-back wins at home in the league for the first time since August 2011.

But the flashpoint came in the dying embers of the game when Ramires was shown a straight red for a challenge on Karim El Ahmadi.

Mourinho was sent from the dugout after coming onto the pitch to confront the ref.

Foy has sent off six Chelsea players in the last eight of their games he has refereed.

He refused to explain his decision when the Blues boss confronted him both on the pitch and in the tunnel.

"I tried to speak with Mr Foy twice," said Mourinho. "I tried on the pitch and I tried in the dressing rooms.

"And in the dressing rooms I just asked politely: 'Can you give me five seconds?' and he refused.

"This is not about conventions, it's about common sense. If you see that somebody is out of control and he is trying to speak with you, OK, convention.

"If you see that everybody is calm, nobody is screaming, nobody is being aggressive, it's not convention."

Mourinho must wait to see if there will be further repercussions from the FA once they have received the referee's match report.

He said: "It's a big occasion for me to know about the character of Mr Foy. Because I want to know what he's going to write about my sending-off.

"Because if my sending-off was because I was on the pitch, two or three metres inside the pitch, I think there should be 10 persons from the dugouts.

"It was me, my two assistants, it was Paul (Lambert), it was Paul's assistants, (Gabriel) Agbonlahor who was aggressive on Ramires from behind, a couple of other players.

"So if I was sent off because I was on the pitch then I ask why not all the others, especially a player who was aggressive towards another player."

And when asked if he expected a charge to follow, Mourinho said: "Me or the ref? No, I don't expect, because I did nothing."
