CHINA increased the maximum speed of bullet trains on its Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway yesterday to 220 miles per hour.
A bullet train named Fuxing (“Rejuvenation”), which will travel at the new high speed, left Beijing South station at 9am for Shanghai.
The speed increase will cut the Beijing-Shanghai journey to 4 hours and 28 minutes.
As of yesterday, 14 Fuxing trains will run daily in both directions between Beijing and Shanghai at the new maximum speed.
“These trains are so popular that the tickets for today sold out a week ago,” said China Railway Corporation official Huang Xin.
