HUNDREDS of protesters invaded London’s British Museum yesterday in an anti-oil protest festival, as pressure for the gallery to drop BP’s sponsorship mounts.
Arts and environmental groups including Art Not Oil and Liberate Tate hosted a series of performances in many of the museum’s rooms, highlighting the disastrous consequences of fossil fuel extraction.
Children Against Global Warming staged a particularly striking piece, as three young girls listed their fears over environmental changes.
One of the anonymous, black-cladded girls cried: “How do I feel about my future? I’m 12. I feel angry and scared.”
Campaigners were joined by Hollywood actor Ezra Miller, who sang along to protesters’ chants in the museum’s iconic Great Court.
An earlier demonstration was also held at the Tate Modern over its own associations with the oil company.
Neither the British Museum or the Tate were able to provide comment.
