Pakistan: Airport training centre attacked by gunmen

GUNMEN in Pakistan attacked a training facility near Karachi airport today.

The facility serves as a training centre for airport security personnel and is half a mile from the Karachi international airport.

At least two groups of gunmen tried to enter the facility from two different entrances, said Airport Security Force spokesman Ghulam Abbas Memon.

The firefight came hard on the heels of a brazen siege by Taliban who stormed Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night in an attack that led to the deaths of 36 people, including 10 Taliban fighters.

Seven more bodies were found in the burned airport building yesterday.

At least 11 members of the Airport Security Force were killed during that attack.

The Civil Aviation Authority, which is responsible for running the country’s airports, said later that Tuesday’s attacks had been quashed by early afternoon and flights had restarted.
