MORE than 9,000 people working for discount supermarket Lidl are to be given a pay rise of over £1,000 a year after the company raised its minimum wage.

The German retail giant will start paying staff a minimum of £8.20 from October 1, which will affect over half of the workforce.

Lidl will be paying higher salaries than the government proposed with its rebranded minimum wage.
