A HUMAN rights group is campaigning to persuade Marks and Spencer to stop advertising in the Daily Mail because of the paper’s anti-immigrant, anti-refugee rhetoric.
Global Justice Now supporters plan to visit Marks and Spencer stores and hide leaflets in clothing and other goods which bear the words of a divisive Daily Mail headline: “This tidal wave of migrants could be the biggest threat to Europe since the war.”
The reverse side of the leaflets will parody a Marks and Spencer advertisement saying: “This isn’t just ordinary hate and racism, it’s M&S-funded hate and racism.”
A recent United Nations report singled out the British media as being “uniquely aggressive in its campaigns against refugees and migrants.”
Migration campaigner at Global Justice Now Aisha Dodwell said: “Marks and Spencer proudly proclaim its ethical business credentials and presents itself as a socially responsible company.
“So why are they associating themselves with newspapers that promote hate?”
