Deportation of Minister Mark Harper's former cleaner called off over 'potential disruption'

Supporters of Isabella Acevado vow to 'be more vigilant' as authorities issue new deportation notice

The deportation of Minister for Disabled People Mark Harper’s former cleaner was called off over security fears, supporters revealed yesterday.

A leaked Home Office document shows that Isabella Acevedo’s removal from Britain was postponed because of “potential disruption by third parties.”

Supporters have celebrated it as a victory for people power.

“It was due to your willingness to undertake direct action and possibly due to airport workers willingness to throw down their tools and refuse to service the plane,” said supporters’ spokeswoman Deepa Naik.

But Ms Acevedo has been hit with a new deportation notice.

It says she could be sent back to Colombia at any time between 12.01am on August 1 and 11.59pm on August 15.

Ms Naik said she saw the move as “an attempt to catch Isabella’s supporters and family off-guard,” labelling it “deceitful, disingenuous and torturous.”

The lengthy period of deportation danger is a newly introduced procedure under what asylum and deportation experts called “exceptional circumstances.”

Authorities are still required to give Ms Acevedo 48 hours’ notice before her flight.

The Facebook-based Movement for Justice by Any Means Necessary has vowed to “be more vigilant as any time in coming 15 days.”

Preparations are being made for actions to be taken at Heathrow airport with little notice depending on further news of Ms Acevedo’s deportation flight.
