TATE, the corporate body which runs four of Britain’s most prestigious art galleries, must disclose how much money it receives from oil giant BP, an information tribunal decided yesterday.

Freedom of Information campaigners had sought full disclosure of the sponsorship deal but Tate had refused.

But the tribunal ordered Tate to disclose how much BP gave in sponsorship between 1990 and 2006 and release details of its “internal decision-making” on the deal.

Anna Galkina of campaign group Platform said: “Tate’s sponsorship deal provides BP with a veneer of respectability when in reality it is trashing the climate and involved with a series of environmental and human rights controversies all around the world.”

Tate has 28 days to appeal against the decision.
