Alex Neil faces 'no confidence' motion over meddling behaviour

SCOTTISH Health Secretary Alex Neil will face a motion of no confidence today over claims of meddling with his constituency’s mental health services.

Scottish Labour shadow Neil Findlay MSP demanded the health secretary’s head, citing “damning” emails discussing his 2012 decision to reverse a decision to remove Monklands Hospital’s acute mental health beds.

Mr Findlay has alleged that the emails show that Mr Neil intervened after becoming health secretary, then publicly delegated responsibility to his deputy over a “conflict of interest.”

First Minister Alex Salmond branded the demand “ridiculous” yesterday.

“Labour’s interest in mental health in Lanarkshire isn’t anything to do with the patients, it is just an argument to try and get at an SNP minister,” he said.
