PROTESTERS will march in north London this evening against council plans to hand £2 billion worth of public property to private developers.
Haringey Council is to give huge swathes of public assets including council houses, libraries, parks, health centres, community centres, shops and school buildings to privateers.
The deal involves property and land in Wood Green, Tottenham, Hornsey and Muswell Hill.
Trade unions have united with community groups to oppose the plans, which are set to be finalised today.
GMB London region secretary Warren Kenny said: “GMB London is concerned about the reckless privatisation pursued by Haringey Council’s leadership.
“The proposed Haringey Development Vehicle will see over £2bn of public assets transferred into private ownership within just the first phase. There has been no guarantee around residents being able to return on secure tenancies at council rents.”
Protesters will assemble 5pm on Ducketts Common, Wood Green, with a rally starting at 6pm at Haringey Civic Centre.
