EX-MINERS are appealing for donations for a memorial to 361 men and boys killed in England’s worst mining disaster.

On December 12 1866 explosions ripped through Oaks colliery outside Barnsley in South Yorkshire.

Although a memorial exists for the 28 rescue workers who died, there is none for the other 333 men and boys.

A group of former miners have formed a People and Mining group which is leading the appeal to raise funds for a memorial.
