MANCHESTER’S LGBT community hit back yesterday at an attack by the region’s Ukip MEP on proposals for a sexuality education project.

LGBT Youth North West launched the project to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in the region but came under attack from Ukip deputy leader and education spokesman Paul Nuttall.

“This idea does nothing but foster division,” he fumed.

“At a time that successive governments have closed all but a few special schools, why this sudden exception, if not for reasons of political correctness?”

Manchester’s Joyce Layland LGBT Centre manager Ali Hanbury told the Star: “The comment from Ukip’s Paul Nuttall is both inflammatory and shows a misrepresentation of our plans.

“It is well-documented that Ukip’s representatives have worrying views about lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.”
