Palestine solidarity campaigners target Sainsbury’s

Supermarket stocks goods made in illegal Israeli settlements

Palestine solidarity activists in Sheffield will stage two actions in the city targeting Sainsbury's supermarkets tomorrow.

Sainsbury’s stores stock goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements built on land stolen from Palestinians.

Palestine Solidarity Campaign is holding nationwide strikes to persuade Sainsbury’s to stop stocking the goods.

The Co-op has taken a lead by refusing to stock Israeli goods made in the settlements.

Sheffield PSC spokeswoman Hilary Smith said: “There is one firm in particular, Mehadrin. It operates in a number of settlements.

“Some of the settlements expand, and when they do they destroy Palestinian communities and bulldoze Palestinian homes.

“Sainsbury’s knowingly trades with them selling their dates, fruit and vegetables.”

Sheffield University Student PSC activists will be at Sainsbury’s store in Upper Hanover Street from 11am, and Sheffield PSC will be at the firm’s store in Sheffield High Street at noon.
