PRESIDENT Cristina Fernandez said on Thursday that the government will seek criminal charges against US-based printing company RR Donnelley and Sons.
Workers at the Donnelley printing plant in Buenos Aires showed up on Monday to find locked doors and a note informing them the plant was closed due to an “insurmountable crisis.”
About 400 workers lost their jobs — about half of them are trying to keep the plant going despite getting no pay.
Company representatives sought to “create fear in the population” and undermine the economy with the plant closure, which could be in violation of anti-terrorism laws adopted in 2011, President Fernandez said.
The president insisted that there had been no legitimate economic justification for the closure and she accused the company of collaborating with vulture hedge funds which are attempting to extort billions from the country, driving it into default last month.
