South Yorkshire's Star supporters to stage left conference

SOUTH Yorkshire Morning Star supporters are to stage a conference on left priorities for the run-up to next year’s general election, it was announced yesterday.

Contributors will include former Labour MP Alan Simpson, writer, environmentalist and energy and climate policy adviser, Morning Star features writer Bernadette Horton, Communist Party of Britain chair and former NUT president Bill Greenshields, and Rachel Newton of the People’s Charter and People’s Assembly.

Yorkshire Morning Star organiser Bernard Ogley said: “The disastrous impact on the mass of ordinary people of the Con-Dem government’s austerity programme and the outcome of the recent local council and European elections clearly point to the need for a clear socialist alternative.

“It’s imperative that we get the message across to all concerned that there is a credible alternative and that ‘austerity-lite’ simply isn’t it.”

The one-day conference on Saturday takes place at St Andrew’s Church, Hanover Way, Sheffield. Registration is at 9.30am. Call 0114 2439141 or email [email protected].
