DISABLED people voiced their anger in Merseyside yesterday as they descended on Employment Minister Esther McVey’s constituency office.
The West Wirral Tory is responsible for overseeing policies such as benefit sanctions which have seen 1.2 million people — including many with disabilities — cast into dire poverty.
Merseyside campaigners have set up a Sack Esther McVey Committee which has swamped the constituency with leaflets.
Wheelchair user Paula Peters, a member of Disabled People Against Cuts national steering committee, travelled from Bromley in Kent for the protest.
She said DPAC is staging a “national revenge tour” targeting the constituencies of ministers and other MPs “who have hurt disabled people,” including Ms McVey and her boss at the Department for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith.
“The local trades councils have done an amazing job with the Sack McVey campaign,” Ms Peters told the Morning Star.
“Disabled people have voting power and we can vote these MPs out. Next we will be at Iain Duncan Smith’s constituency in Chingford.”
During their march yesterday, which ended with a rally outside the Tories’ local HQ, campaigners took down Esther McVey election posters illegally displayed on trees on the public highway.
