Privatised care workers strike again to defend pay

150 Doncaster staff to walk out for 4 days after months of action

Yorkshire care workers whose jobs were privatised are to strike again in defence of their pay and conditions.

The 150 Doncaster workers, with healthcare union Unison, have announced a four-day walkout from April 18-21.

It follows two weeks of strike action in February and March, along with a third strike taking place on Sunday and Monday this week.

They were employed by the NHS and contracted by Doncaster Council to care for people with learning disabilities, enabling them to remain independent in their own homes.

Privateer Care UK successfully bid for the contract, undercut the existing NHS service.

The care workers’ jobs were then transferred to Care UK, which announced wage cuts of up to 50 per cent and attacked other terms and conditions.

Care UK has brought in scab staff, who are being put up in hotels.

A march in support of the real workers takes place on Saturday April 19. Gather at 11am Civic Square, Waterdale, Doncaster.
