YORKSHIRE factory workers staged a sit-in yesterday over non-payment of wages after their employer went bust — six months after being prosecuted for people-trafficking.
Around 100 members of general union GMB working at Kozee Sleep’s bedding factory have occupied the company headquarters at Ravensthorpe in West Yorkshire.
Insolvency administrators KPMG have taken over the firm.
GMB regional organiser Neil Cole said: “About 100 workers are currently in ‘no man’s land’ in respect to knowing what the future holds for them, after the hostile appointment of receivers. They are going into the second week without wages, and no reassurance as to when they will receive any pay.
“With bills to pay, mouths to feed and families to provide for, this is a real picture of Britain’s working families being failed.”
He pledged that GMB would “fight for justice for our members and ensure wages are paid as soon as possible” and was pressing for action by administrators.
