YESTERDAY’S Beirut marathon turned into a political protest for the return of Lebanese ex-prime minister Saad Hariri from alleged captivity in Saudi Arabia.

His portrait was hung from lamp posts along the route and one woman raised a placard reading: “We want our prime minister back.”

Mr Hariri flew to the Saudi capital Riyadh the week before last, claiming he was targeted for assassination, and resigned in a pre-recorded message transmitted on Saudi TV.

On Saturday President Michel Aoun demanded Riyadh to reveal “the reasons that are preventing” Mr Hariri from returning to Lebanon.
