Sven talks up possible return to England

Sven-Goran Eriksson has opened the door for a possible return as England manager, should the FA decide to depart with Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson has led England to two defeats at the World Cup and the Three Lions will not progress out of the group stages for the first time since 1958.

When in charge of the national side, Eriksson saw England get knocked out in the quarter-finals at the hands of eventual winners Brazil in 2002 and lost on penalties in 2006 to Portugal, again in the quarter-finals.

Despite the FA saying Hodgson will be in charge at the European Championship in 2016, the Swede has thrown his name into the hat incase there is a change of plan.

Asked whether the FA was right to stand by Hodgson, Eriksson said: “If they don’t want me back, keep Hodgson.”
