Celtic hoping to land blow in race for Scottish Premiership title

by Greg Leedham

Celtic have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership when they take on Hibernian in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

The Hoops currently hold a three-point advantage of Inverness, who do not play until Sunday when they host Partick Thistle.

Gaining a six-point lead would be a welcome boost for manager Neil Lennon, whose side take on Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

His selections for Saturday's game will be made with the visit of the Dutch giants in mind.

Defender Mikael Lustig is a major doubt after he injured his hip on international duty with Sweden last week.

Midfielders Joe Ledley and Tom Rogic are back from their respective groin injuries and James Forrest is expected to be fit again after a combination of sciatica and a virus kept him out of Scotland’s final World Cup qualifier against Croatia on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere fourth-placed Aberdeen host Dundee United, who currently sit sixth.

Kilmarnock, who have taken just three points from nine games, take on Ross County, who are ninth.

Basement club Hearts, who began the season with a 15-point deduction for going into administration, will hope to eat into the deficit further when they travel to third-placed Motherwell.

St Mirren host St Johnstone, with the Buddies keen to continue an upturn that has seen them go unbeaten in their last two matches.
