UNION activists criticised the TUC yesterday after an official Twitter account gave a link to an article in The Sun.
The union centre’s press office linked to a report on its call for bosses to relax dress codes at work in this week’s heatwave.
But some activists said it was inappropriate to offer a link to the website of the Murdoch-owned tabloid, which is boycotted by many in the labour movement.
The post was subsequently deleted.
Replying to the tweet, former RMT president Alex Gordon called for TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady to “review [press office] policy now.”
A TUC spokesman said: “We regularly tweet examples of media coverage from the press office Twitter account. The tweet in question has since been deleted.”
A number of unions are affiliated to the Total Eclipse of the S*n campaign. The group has promoted a boycott of the paper over its lies about the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and prejudiced coverage of news events.
