1 dead and 13 injured in east London bus collision

A MAN died and 13 people were injured when a car and a number 38 night bus crashed early yesterday morning.

The man was one of four men in the car when it collided with the bus in Clapton, east London, at about 2.20am.

The other three were also injured, one critically, while 10 people on the bus were treated as “walking wounded,” Scotland Yard said. Paramedics treated bus passengers before a number of the injured were taken to hospital by another bus. It is believed they all received minor injuries.

The bus was travelling towards Whipps Cross when the accident happened in Lea Bridge Road at the junction with Essex Wharf.

Rose Friggi, a mother-of-two, was nearby at Paradise Park. She said: “I was up in the night because my baby was sick. I heard what sounded like an explosion. My husband went to work at about 3am and there were police cars and a helicopter at the scene.”
