ONE of most important documents of the past century is set to go on display in London this week as part of the Tate Modern’s Russian Revolution exhibition.

The poster written by Lenin in 1917 proclaimed the overthrow of the Provisional Government in Russia as the Bolsheviks swept to power and is believed to be the first document issued by the Soviet state.

It was pinned to the walls of Petrograd and announced to the public that state power had been transferred to the Petrograd Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies.

“Long live the revolution of workers, soldiers and peasants,” it concluded.
