Ukip member suspended for racist Twitter rant

Andre Lampitt tweeted 'extreme' Islamophobic views

A Ukip member featured in the party’s EU election broadcast has been suspended after expressing “repellent” racist views on Twitter.

The party admitted the faux pas yesterday.

Andre Lampitt appeared in a builder’s hard hat in the Ukip film shown to TV viewers complaining that “since the lads from Eastern Europe” had arrived in Britain and undercut him, he had found it a “real struggle” to provide for his family.

But leader Nigel Farage was forced to axe him as a local election candidate after his social media posts were flagged up.

The messages have been deleted but a Ukip spokesman said they were aware of at least six posts expressing “various extreme racist views” including anti-Islamic sentiments.

“We are deeply shocked that Mr Lampitt has expressed such repellent views,” he said.

“His membership of the party has been suspended immediately pending a full disciplinary process.”
