WASHINGTON brought in new restrictions on US tourists visiting Cuba yesterday after they were announced in June by President Donald Trump.

The rules ban US business dealings with the Cuban armed forces-run Enterprise Administration Group SA (Gaesa), which operates dozens of hotels, tour buses, restaurants and other facilities.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the new curbs were intended to “encourage the government to move toward greater political and economic freedom for the Cuban people.”

However, the Treasury also said it would expand and simplify licences allowing some exports to Cuba without specific government permission.
