STORM Desmond posed a threat to the transportation of nuclear waste when it swept across Scotland and northern England, campaigners claimed yesterday.

Nuclear-Free Local Authorities said: “Even before Storm Desmond had finished wreaking havoc, the nuclear industry took it upon itself to transport a cargo of plutonium fuel from Dounreay in Caithness to Sellafield (Cumbria) on a rail network already highly compromised by extensive flooding, landslides and signalling failures.”
