Rajiv Ouseph falls to Jan Jorgensen in Kazan in the badminton, Toulon look set to beat Munster in the rugby union European Cup and in the boxing, Charlie Edwards thrashes Jack Bateson for the ABA flyweight title

BADMINTON: Rajiv Ouseph failed in his bid to win England’s first European men’s singles gold medal for 24 years in Kazan yesterday.

The England number one and 2010 Commonwealth silver medallist fell in straight sets to top seed Jan Jorgensen of Denmark 21-18 21-10.

Ouseph will now switch his attention to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July.

RUGBY UNION: Defending champions Toulon stand just 80 minutes away from retaining their European Cup crown after they edged past Munster 24-16 in Marseille.

Former England international Jonny Wilkinson kicked 21 points as the Top 14 side set up a May 24 final against Saracens at the Millennium Stadium — a repeat of last year’s semi-final which Toulon won 24-12 in London.

BOXING: Charlie Edwards served up a significant statement of intent by beating his Great Britain rival Jack Bateson to claim the ABA flyweight title in Liverpool.

The 21-year-old Edwards rose to the occasion to earn a unanimous decision over the Leeds man as their eagerly awaited first meeting lived up to the hype.
