A COUPLE launch a crowdfund campaign today for a “completely transparent” new energy business that promises to give back most of its profits to customers.
David Pike and Karin Sode, from Gullane in East Lothian, plan to set up Our Energy in response to the “contempt” shown to customers by the so-called Big Six energy firms.
The company will put customers on its representation board, give them votes on business decisions, inform them about running costs and return 75 per cent of their profits to customers.
Mr Pike, who previously worked for EDF and Scottish Power, said: “Our customers will enjoy the profits and after three years will own the company.”
The couple need to raise £450,000. An initial fundraising drive brought in over £18,000.
The current campaign has the backing of business leaders including former Gleneagles Hotel chairman Peter Lederer.
A website for Our Energy can be found at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ourenergy.
However, left energy campaigners have long been calling for full renationalisation of the sector to achieve fairness for customers.
