Film: Not Another Happy Ending (12A)

A soppy, even misanthropic, mess which requires more than creative surgery

Not Another Happy Ending (12A)

Directed by John McKay

Not Another Happy Ending almost sounds like a hostage to fortune, since the whole experience proved to be a profound disappointment.

Karen Gillan plays Jane whose first novel about a family memoir proves a sensation, having been cleverly edited by her French publisher Tom (Stanley Weber).

The trouble is that success proves temporary because she's convinced Tom is her muse and his financial shortcomings require a successful sequel.

Yet her brief happiness results in writer's block, which prompts Tom to adopt a strategy that will make her miserable, with predictable results.

Apart from the tourist views of Glasgow and the cast of character actors it's a soppy, even misanthropic, mess which requires more than creative surgery.
