STUC votes to stay away from Yes and No camps

The STUC will stay neutral in the run-up to September's referendum

Scottish Trades Union Congress delegates voted again yesterday to steer clear of both sides in the independence debate.

The STUC will stay neutral in the run-up to September's referendum, with trade unionists clear that their campaigns would go on regardless of how the vote turns out.

UCU Scotland official Mary Senior, speaking for the STUC's general council, told the hall that delegates' lobbying had already seen the terms of the debate shift "to a vision of social justice."

She said: "The STUC will continue to press the Yes campaign and the Better Together campaign to make sure our members are the best informed when they step in front of the ballot box in September."
