Veteran peace campaigner Walter Wolfgang urged party activists to mobilise opposition to Trident nuclear weapons at Labour’s National Policy Forum in July.
“We might carry this at the policy forum,” Mr Wolfgang told the Conway Hall meeting of the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy (CLPD) at the weekend.
Labour national executive member Ann Black pleaded with unions to break with their usual practice of voting down amendments opposing Trident.
Demands to bring the railways back into public ownership will also be backed by CLPD activists at the policy forum, which takes place in Milton Keynes from July 18-20.
Speakers at the CLPD meeting condemned the undemocratic and heavily centralised control exercised by the Labour Party leadership.
Resolutions were adopted calling for restoration of the party conference as the sovereign decision-making body and opposing state funding of political parties.
The CLPD is backing Centre-Left Grassroots Alliance candidates for the Labour Party executive: Ann Black, Ken Livingstone, Kate Osamor, Christine Shawcroft, Darren Williams and Pete Willsman.
