A POLICE firearms officer has won a £457,000 payout after he was subjected to racist abuse and discrimination by colleagues and senior officers.
Former VIP protection officer PC Nadeem Saddique, 45, has been unable to return to work after a long-running battle with his employers Cleveland Police.
An employment tribunal was told last year that senior officers wanted him, the only Asian officer in the unit, thrown out and that he was branded “just a Paki” and a “black cunt” by superiors on a night out.
The hearing heard, in echoes of the Cass report into London’s Special Patrol Group, that one colleague had an English Defence League sticker, referencing Muslims and a crusade, on their holster, but that this was not properly investigated.
A remedy hearing in Middlesbrough ruled that Mr Saddique should receive more than £457,000 for his ordeal, which meant that he could no longer work as a police officer.
Mr Saddique, from Ingleby Barwick, brought an employment tribunal case against the force in 2011 for race discrimination, harassment and bullying.
