Los Mineros hails progress on Teksid Hierro talks

Company agrees to reinstate workers sacked for striking

Mexico's Los Mineros union reported today that talks with the Teksid Hierro company had made significant progress.

During a second round of talks with the union, the Fiat-Chrysler-owned company agreed to workers’ demands to reinstate three of their colleagues sacked for striking, pay a fair share of the profits and respect the decision to join Los Mineros rather than the company-supported “yellow union” CTM.

Only the issue of back wages for the work stoppage was still outstanding, the union reported.

Tomas Hernandez Castillo of Los Mineros said that the workers’ demand for union recognition of Los Mineros had also been conceded by the company.

Teksid Hierro said it would not interfere, given that nearly all of the 800 workers had signed affiliation forms to join.

Mr Hernandez added that the demand to cease repressive measures and make a fair distribution of profit sharing had also been approved.
